Air supply to your home or wood burning stove is important to ensure it works correctly. If your house if very well insulated or has mechanical ventilation systems or extractor hoods, there may be operational problems (exhaust blow-back, for example). In this case, we recommend that you choose a “sealed unit” that allows air supply required for combustion to be protected from the exterior, which will completely prevent such incidents. Insulation is another factor to keep in mind. If your home is not well insulated, it will require more heat. In any case, if your home has good insulation it will require an exterior air supply.

For example, you may choose the wrong power and end up overheating your house or generating more energy consumption through the stove than necessary. If you buy a wood stove with very high power, it will consume more wood than necessary. The market for wood burning stoves offers many power output levels. Domestic installations are usually less than 70kW, but the correct choice will depend on the use you are going to give to your stove.
The power range of domestic boilers is usually 4kW and up. As a guideline, you can calculate that 1kW can heat approximately 10 square meters. So, a house of about 100 square meters would need a 10kW wood stove. But there are more variables that influence the decision regarding power output such as your home’s insulation, the area in which you live, etc.
The level of insulation directly influences the power needed to heat your home. Bad insulation due to the façade, partitions, windows etc. will make you need more power since some of the heat leaves your home through there. The area where your house is located will also exercise influence. Owing to this, estimates of power output must also take this factor into account.
