ECODESIGN2022, the new European directive for the ecological design of domestic biomass appliances, will be mandatory as of 1 January 2022. From that time onwards, it will be illegal to sell and install any appliance that does not comply with these regulations.
The aim of ECODESIGN2022 is to protect the environment and human health. To this end, the regulations set the parameters for the emission of harmful substances to minimum levels. These requirements are related to two aspects that have been identified as important to the environment and to health. Namely energy efficiency and emissions of particulate matter (PM), organic gaseous compounds (OGC), carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOx).
To check whether a product meets the ECODESIGN2022 regulations, take a look at the emission data which each manufacturer is legally required to publish and which must at least meet the following requirements: efficiency higher than 75%, CO emissions less than 0.12%, NOx emissions less than 200 mg/m3, OGC emissions less than 120mg/m3 and particulate matter less than 40mg/m3.
This means that the purchase of an appliance that complies with these regulations will lead to lower consumption and greater savings, while being environmentally friendly, protecting the quality of the air and human health.
LACUNZA, a company based in Navarre, Spain, with 50 years of experience in the manufacture of wood burning appliances, already offers a complete range of new generation products with the ECODESIGN2022 certification. The company has spent the last 6 years adapting already available models to be compliant, while all the products progressively brought to market already meet the requirements of these regulations.
As an example, classic models from the LACUNZA catalogue such as the LEVANTE wood burning stove, best-value stoves such as the SAGRA, or premium appliances from the catalogue such as the ITACA insert stove with a guillotine style door, have already been adapted to meet these requirements. Furthermore, LACUNZA has redesigned and improved a few details in its ITACA models, such as increasing the fire viewing window by 20% and installing quieter fans.
As José Julián Garciandia, the general manager of LACUNZA, commented, “we have a clear commitment: to care for the environment and human health and, with this aim in mind, we are already able to offer a complete range of new generation products with the ECODESIGN certification. We're Ready!”
